Mr Lionel Lim is the President of Sun Microsystems' Asia South region. In this capacity, he is responsible for the Global Sales and Services Organization, incorporating all of Sun's current sales organizations in a complex geography covering a diverse set of countries in Asia South.
In addition to being Asia South's president, Mr Lim's portfolio includes the role of Chief of Operations for the Asia Pacific region at Sun Microsystems. This region includes Geographically Established Markets (GEMs); Japan , Greater China (People's Republic of China, Hong Kong and Taiwan ), Asia South (14 countries), Australia and New Zealand , Korea and India . As Chief of Operations, he is responsible for putting strategies in place across APAC to drive and grow the business regionally.
Mr Lionel Lim has more than 29 years of experience in the InfoCommunications Industry and after joining Sun in 1988, he was instrumental in building the company's operations in Asia South. The Regional Business Headquarters for the Asia South operation is located in Singapore and it has offices in Malaysia , Thailand , Indonesia , the Philippines and India .
Under Mr Lim's leadership, Sun in Asia South has led as the number one vendor in the Unix server market for both revenue and unit shipment. In recognition of Mr Lim's achievements in growing the region, he was presented the prestigious Sun Microsystems, Inc. Leadership Award 2001.
The Leadership Award was developed to recognize key executives who have excellent leadership skills. The award focuses on "how" the individuals lead and motivated their teams and not just on the business results they achieved.
Mr Lim has been described by the Business Times in Singapore as "a leader that leads with passion". He is renowned for propagating Sun's vision as a thought leader.
Prior to Sun, Mr Lim held several senior management positions throughout his 9 years' tenure in Hewlett-Packard which range from business development, managing strategic relationships to sales operations. His last held position in Hewlett-Packard was Director of Sales, Hewlett-Packard Singapore . Mr Lim has a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (Hons) from the University of Melbourne.
